SAIC Motor Corp is China’s largest Automobile conglomerate that announced the launch of all-electric SUV by 2020 in India. Launch of the electric vehicle is expected to take place soon after MG Motors begins its operation in India with the C Segment SUV. Launch of the new all-electric SUV has been slated for Q2 2018. SAIC Motor Corp had declared that the Electric SUV by MG Motors will be produced at their Gujarat plant in Halol, India and that the hi-tech SUV offers best comfort and mileage.
SAIC Motor International Company’s President and SAIC Motor’s International Business’ Executive Director, Michael Yang mentioned that launch of the globally-competitive electric SUV by MG Motors in India is the company’s contribution towards environmental and energy strategies of India. Pure electric SUV is likely to be a breakthrough chapter in India’s EV space. The launch of this EV is expected to be in addition to first SUV that is scheduled for launch by second quarter 2019.
New Launch to Play a Significant Role in MG Motor Business
Ongoing transformation in automotive industry across the globe has been an important differentiator for MG Motor business. With vehicles getting transformed with cloud and big data computing, artificial intelligence and internet, etc., MG Motor attains advantage of the transformation by utilizing it as an important differentiator that helps the company in standing out from the rest.
MG Motor India has been dealing with the process of finalizing nearly 45 dealer partners for beginning the sales by 2019 with approximately 100 touchpoints throughout India in first phase. The automobile company is planning to hire nearly 1,500 employees by 2019-end compared with the current 300 employee strength.
MG Motor is setting up all to ramp up their pre-launch activities, starting with the product roadshows for the customers across India, by next month. This would be followed by several initiatives for brand-awareness, in order to achieve closer connection with the potential customers. All the products of the company will be engineered and designed in China and UK with support of the Indian engineers. These automobiles would be heavily localized and built in Halol plant by engineers, thereby catering to the global quality standards, which will be completely customized and validated for India. Indian driving and road condition will also be taken into consideration by the engineers.
Summary: In order to cater to further manufacturing needs, Halol manufacturing facility of MG Motor will be extended to 200,000 units from 80,000 units per annum. Launch of all-electric SUV is expected to further create growth avenues for MG Motor Company with regards to revenue and global position in the automobile industry.
